Reality Wins Out Over Illogical Hopes

Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

My class size in the engineering assembly language class has gone down from fifteen to eleven, as four of the students finally dropped, although I'm not sure what kind of refund they got since it's already the seventh week of classes.

These were students who knew from the start that they had a class conflict; two, in fact, since it's not only the lab class that they had trouble attending but apparently also the lecture.

I found out about this because when I asked one of the four where the others were earlier (while the rest of the class was doing their quiz) I was told that they were in another major subject.

Is it the fault of the adviser for having allowed them to enroll without checking for any conflicts, or some of the upperclassmen who erroneously told them that they could enroll conflicting subjects first before requesting for a change of schedule, when in fact the procedure is to request for a change of schedule before enrolling what used to be conflicting subjects?

@@ My theory on a certain student's behavior bears out. Again today he asked me one question at the start of the class, which I dismissed as being in their notes since the quiz was open notes, and from that point on he just asked the class topnotcher again.

Now I'm wondering if that's something that's good for him also, being dependent on someone who will answer his questions for him even at inappropriate times, or if he really should learn to get everything in his notes from what is said in the lectures and what's written on the board.

Or maybe I should not care anymore if he won't be my student anymore in any of the succeeding subjects, though I doubt it.

As far as I know there's still the advanced assembly language class at least.

Session 2417 wants stricter rules for students to follow in enrollment and classroom policies. Class dismissed.
