2008-11-07 11:39 AM My Next Few Days and The Day Before Student "edition" found at {csi dot journalspace dot com}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. I'll post in the student accessible version tomorrow about my reaction to the death of Michael Crichton. Or maybe on Monday. That will depend on what happens tomorrow, since the job has dropped down to me from the director of the our school for me to help facilitate a talk between semiconductor companies and colleges about more linkages, organized by the mayor's office and happening at a mall in the mayor's town. Besides that, this seems to be a week where there are a lot of emotional opinions that need to be addressed, and in detail, so that I don't just put them in bullet form and in short hand. There's also something to be said about a site being blocked in school just because it contained the keywords "crack cocaine". Well, so much for doing research on that if the subject ever comes up in one of their science or sociology classes. Paranoia over surfing for bad stuff trumps need to be properly informed. @@ The other day, a certain student, during our class, asked bluntly why the most recent exam included questions about addition and subtraction operations when it was earlier stated that the coverage was only multiplication onwards. In near exasperation, I reminded him that just like all of the other subjects I've been teaching, such as mathematics or introduction to electricity and magnetism, later topics build on the initial topics, which are the fundamentals. No response from him. So if they can't answer the relatively simpler questions, what makes him think they can solve the more difficult ones? But this seeming compartmentalization of attention on his part already shows me that he's only devoting a limited amount of effort on my subject compared to the others, as seen by his being in the faculty room just as my class is starting working on another subject, to which, when he gets to my classroom, he proclaims to his classmates that he's the highest for that quiz. Session 2437 is now just looking forward to Saturday night and Sunday. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
