Hopefully the Last Confusion Between Similar Sounding But Different Subjects

Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

Okay, this is what happened today. Since Wednesday the teachers of the computational and non-computational science classes have been telling the students that if they are engineering students, they should be enrolled in SCIENC1 and SCILAB1.

If they are non-engineering students, they should be enrolled in SCIENCE and SCI-LAB.

I thought I had seen all variations of this the past few days, of a student being in the right lecture but wrong lab, or vice versa, or in the wrong lecture AND lab.

Of course, the registrar’s office has been up to their elbows in work correcting these when the students approach them. Part of the problem is their boss is out of town, until the middle of next week, so it’s the vice dean who we all look to for advice.

But today I found out there’s another combination: a SCILAB1 section whose enrollees are composed entirely of non-engineering students. If they are all asked to move to one of the two existing sections, this class, under another teacher, will have to be dissolved and he will be under-loaded.

Besides, there are eighteen students in the engineering class, which means they fit in one lab.

In the SCIENCE and SCI-LAB classes though, there are now fifty plus students in total.

Since there are only twenty students allowed to be enrolled in a corresponding lab section that means that there now have to be three lab sections to accommodate all of the students who are correctly enrolled in SCIENCE.

So the solution to this is that the SCILAB1 class with all non-engineering students will now be renamed, which is the easiest fix for everyone involved.

Except for me; I have three sections to team teach now, with two different teachers.

Best alternative I could figure out right now: if these two co-teachers of mine are present during the first session of lab I have on Wednesday morning, then one of them will take over the Wednesday afternoon class, and the other the Friday class.

As for yesterday’s inserted topic: haven’t met, but told it’s no biggie.

Session 2501 is glad to finally have a post-length topic written for the first time this year. Class dismissed.
