Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. Last Saturday while I was looking for the maintenance personnel in the anecdote told today in the student accessible version, the head of the engineering week committee approached me and accompanied me in the hallway telling me about his problems about funding for the activities, especially the last part. Seeing that he was waiting for me to reply, the only thing I could tell him was that he should not give the shirts until the people had paid, regardless of what they want for the opening ceremonies for there to be a sea of people with the same shirt. He said that’s what they were already planning, so I don’t know what he needed from me. This morning, while I was on my way to school, he sent a text message saying that there was going to be a meeting with one of the major sponsors (maybe THE major sponsor for the week) and if I could welcome them. I told him that I had a class at that time and I’ll just catch up after thirty minutes. It’s not my job; someone else was assigned the task of advising the organizing students. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to help them, but I’m already feeling the pinch of having too many straws on my plate (mixing metaphors once again). I thought when there was no one here when I arrived at 930am earlier, that the meeting was already done. But at around 1030am, that’s when they arrived, The student was with them, and there was really the air of desperation on his part that he didn’t know how to talk to them. So I did, telling them what they wanted to know about the package they were buying (being allowed to put up their own banners or booth besides being prominently in the banners we will be posting and the programs, and being mentioned in all the events). He did accompany them to the accounting office himself to deposit their check. I hope this is the last time this happens, or that he asks for help from the previous head of the organizing committee, who was very independent last year. Session 2517 wonders whatever happened to students thinking for themselves. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
