2009-02-10 10:50 PM The Busy Tuesday Consequence Somewhat Continues Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. @@ Well, this is an improvement: I am only typing out one entry instead of two this evening. Although technically I also posted the entry for the student accessible version this evening, it was, at least, not after I got home, but took advantage of a WIFI setup. And, in actuality, that post was already written this morning, but for some reason today the net in the campus was so very agonizingly slow to non-existent. Another thing is that I wasn't able to configure the WIFI until evening, although I was in the vicinity of the WIFI for four hours beforehand; I just allowed one of my co-teachers to play Sally's Spa instead when we couldn't figure it out. @@ I understand why some people believe in dialog. Done right it's faster than written correspondence. But done wrong, it wastes the time of a lot of people who aren't the right audience for the words, and people can have their own interpretations of the happenings. In that sense, having a recorded interaction is better for you to look back on. It's also important that it is a two-way communication that takes place, and not just allowing the other person to speak up at the start then spending the rest of the meeting coating your final position around words of idealism. @@ In my second astronomy class, which only has eleven students, I have told them that if there is ever a time when they are complete when answering the start-of-period exercise, that that exercise will be double points. This is hopefully to encourage better attendance, because it is almost the middle of the term and not once have they been complete at the start (sometimes one or two trickle in after the twenty-minute exercise, very late). I don't want to tell this to the other class, since for that section I already institute signing their exercise notebook if they are there when I arrive at 8am. I just had to stop two Korean students (no slur on their nationality) who only asked me to sign at the end of the period. I told them I wouldn't do that anymore next time unless it's at the start of the period. Session 2553 wants diligence. Class dismissed.
