Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. The curse of the can opener continues. What is it with this place that even though four can openers have been brought over for the use of the employees in a span of two and a half months, all of them have ended up being broken? It doesn't matter if it's the cheap kind or the expensive one, as long as it's the one where a knob has to be turned to operate, it either comes loose or falls apart. They always resort to using a knife to cut up the lid of the cans, and in a profession that makes primary use of their hands, that's not a safe practice. @@ Unparalleled finds in this place: a store that's a branch of the one where I used to buy boxer shorts, and now is a good source for unique soaps, hair washes and detergents. Second is a place for buying coconuts for only ten pesos each - half of what I used to pay. Maybe I'll start having one everyday now, just like I used to in the mid 90's. There's also a shop where I was able to buy a glass set with constellations painted on them, which I'm not sure if I've mentioned here before or in the student accessible version. I'm tempted to buy this foam water pump that's shaped like a cylindrical air pump. It's supposed to be for use in a pool or a beach, but the small one costs sixty pesos and the big one a hundred plus. I'll have to wait until a good swimming trip for this one. There are also several street vendors here selling those different shaped gels that absorb water. It's supposed to look good for decorations when placed in a bottle (such that the mouth of the bottle is now smaller than what would look like glass beads inside). One of my co-teachers also bought it for the kid of one the new director for the school of arts and sciences, but apparently she not only got the one that now looks like a preserved snake in a jar, but she also bought one sheet of the small packs. I'll have to ask her if it's the soap in the water or the shaking that makes them shatter. Session 2629 is ready for the rest days. Class dismissed.
