Bad News First or Bad News First?

Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on.

This morning the student council approached me with two pieces of bad news about their activities.

First one was that the parents of college students' association rejected their request for funding for the acquaintance night, which is happening less than six weeks from now.

I told them that I expected it, but they thought that because they are a different council from last year that there would be more consideration for them, maybe because they had not been told of the rule of six weeks lead notice for request for funds.

I just hope that this makes them want to create a more sympathetic association board in July by urging their parents to join, as I had told them they could do in our last meeting.

Yes, it's somewhat manipulative, but it's not like we're pimping out children here; it's a gray area for me.

Second was that their first activity for the term, in the area of social action even before their acquaintance night or their recruitment fair, apparently is not a free screening.

The speaker they invited told them only by text message late last week that there is an expected one hundred peso viewing fee from those who do show up, which includes high school students who are required by their teachers (given invitations by the council) to attend.

And apparently, giving donations or buying the shirt of their cause (which there was enough lead time to tell the students and other guests about) will not suffice to compensate.

So I told the council members who approached me about what we did for the tree planting last school year, where the participants were not told about the fifty pesos they were supposed to provide to pay for the seedling slash s they would put in the ground.

We asked them for commitment letters to donate for two shopping bags full of either old newspaper or other recyclable papers, or of empty plastic bottles payable in the next two weeks.

At least the cause leaders they talked to are okay with "payment to follow" as if the students can run away.

@@ And just an update on the topic I had from last time. I emailed the president, guidance counselor, dean and academic services director about it last Saturday, with screenshots.

The reaction of the president was to not meddle unless the parent (even though it's a parents' association board member) explicitly asks us for help. There's a part of me that wants to ask, is it because the board member is outgoing and because we have to refund the parent's tuition payment since she assumed her daughter won't be going to school anymore?

Session 2683's part may speak for the whole. Class dismissed.
