Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. In my computer systems organization class yesterday, the topic was how flip flops are used to be the binary cells that are in the memory of the computers. To be able to explain this clearly, I had to use concepts discussed in the previous subject, switching theory. This means K-mapping to Boolean expression to gates circuit. Sixty percent of the students, the last in a batch who did not have switching theory before computer systems organization (that for two terms before when I taught the same subject I thought were the LAST of that batch) asked a lot about the process since they were not familiar with it. I told them that the lecture was just to bridge the topics in switching theory with the topics in computer systems organization, for only two fifths of the class who understood perfectly. I had been telling the higher batch irregulars (which is why they had no switching theory in the first place, as it was a late addition in the curriculum) that they should read the book. But of course they asked if it will be in the exam. I said only conceptually, so they are of the mind to disregard it. It would take too much time to explain the entire concept to them, so I plan to just have basic questions about it in the exam (midterms anyway) but not as much as 6 variables, which would require four four-by-four grids as the students from switching theory did. @@ One of the most important things discussed during the extended operations council meeting yesterday the principal wanting to ban smoking completely on campus. I told the head of student affairs of the integrated school that since it is their parents who are complaining, maybe they should formalize it already and write a petition. The problem is if we do not give them a place to smoke, they will do so outside the gate, which no one wants either. The other problem is that if we put them too far away from the security personnel, then we will receive complaints about other illicit stuff going on there, such as gambling on something as simple as the last number on the license plate of the next car to pass. @@ And speaking of cars, one of our teachers was not able to go to class earlier because he was rammed on the way to school by the parent of a kinder student driving another car. Thankfully they were both members of the community, so settlement was easy. The car was brought directly to the repair shop on the tab of the parent, but there is still the question of mobility now for our teacher. Session 2821 can feel the blocks stacking. Class dismissed.
