2009-12-10 1:00 AM Making a Career Out of Christmas Cheer Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. I just came from the other faculty room, where the administrative assistant is. She takes her job so seriously about managing the small time exchange gift for our small time Christmas Party. She had been calling since early afternoon asking if there were teachers here who could go there (from the end of the east wing all the way to the end of the west wing, even if it is the same floor) to draw their recipient’s name already. I’m sure she called earlier when I was taking a power nap. I wonder if after everything she has had to do since the start of the term, or even the start of the term, the lull of the moment has been affected by her previous momentum that she has to excel at this too. In fact, when I finally went there, even volunteering to draw for the co-teacher who was in the room with me as I did not want to have to disturb her momentum of working, the administrative assistant even went so far as to mutter about one of the other teachers who was there who did not join the festivity. He could not think of what to write for his wish list, she said. When in fact the guy I got put down as his number one item any tool (ex. Vice grip) which makes him very easy to shop for, or at least get something from home. Is there, therefore, at least 50% truth in the observation that Christmas is for other people and not for you? @@ Let me talk now about another browser game I am playing. For this one, when I click on certain buttons, I get automatically logged out. I reported it as a bug in one of the other links of the game, and within 24 hours I got a reply, saying that it was the add-on for Google Wave that was causing the problem, and that I should not only disable it, but I should complain to Google about it. Well, I just did the first part. But so far I have not seen it as being major enough to place on any of the announcement pages of the game. @@ In another click at your leisure online game I am playing the healing button has been a problem for several weeks now. Why has this not forced me to give up the game like the other one? For one thing, I know that here I am close to the main goal. Second, it is one of those games where the action points and the hit points are automatically renewed after a certain period of time so in fact, it rewards patience and frequent returning to maximize free points. @@ As I mentioned in the social networks earlier, I also received a text message from a co-teacher this morning asking me to sub for her in a lecture on exponential equations. I was just looking at the book when I realized I was not in the mood to teach kids who were already at a certain mindset of how the teacher will tolerate their behavior, so I asked to pass it on to our youngest full-timer. He had an exam at the same time which I could easily proctor. Thankfully he agreed, declining my bribe of free lunch. And I could not just refuse outright and lie because she told me I was her last resort. Session 2885 now has to shake his head to clear it of the image of the co-teacher as Princess Leia (not in spell checker!) asking for help from Obi-Wan saying he is her only hope. Class dismissed.
