Mood: A Bit Overwhelmed Read/Post Comments (0) |

Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. The workshop of the extended operations council of the school with the incoming school year is half done. There are a lot of insights already just from the morning session. First of all, since we are not in a formal conference area, we are actually in some sort of a lounge with sofas, armchairs and even two day beds. I am sitting directly behind the incoming brother president, who is on the sofa while I am on the raised day bed. So I can see his text messages (which have an alarmingly large text size for such a high resolution screen phone) as well as his notes. First of all, to promote the science and technology thrust of the campus, the high school department may start requiring the graduating students to have what they called a baby thesis, after several years of training on the scientific method, experiments and proper research. Next, there seems to be a need for a new rank of faculty that services both the secondary and tertiary education students. This would definitely serve the intention of having the Grade 11 students taking already pre-college courses. In my written notes earlier, I also somehow got the idea of having the grades of the student leaders evaluated. Does this mean that the students will be taken out of position or be made to cut back on their extracurricular activities until they do better on their academics? Or would there be a cutoff negative growth? Apparently, right now, because of the larger number of students who finished all their courses compared to the smaller number of new students and transferees during the September break and the December break, we have a markedly lower enrollment. Applicants and reservations also are apparently fewer than what was seen last year at the same school year season. Is there going to be a step up operation? One seventh of the full time faculty members are permanent. There are more part time faculty than full time, not following the unwritten rule that it should be a fifty-sixty ratio. Just kidding, it is a fifty-fifty ratio. There was a mention again of the need for a more visual representation of the science and technology thrust of the campus. Apparently, the issue is the model of science and technology curriculum, not the budget it requires. There is also a requirement that we should get the right quality of students who will make the school proud in their achievements in science and technology, not the majority we have right now who are into business administration and communication arts, plus the decision to lower the cut off. If we highlight the understanding by design application though, where the student is king, and we can come up with an advertisement or a newspaper article around it, it might attract the right kind of scientific-minded yet creative students. Apparently BS Environmental Science might be the next program to be offered, but there would be a need to emphasize what kind of jobs they will have in the future, such as urban planning and green building. Session 2959 now has more topics than space to write them. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
