Mood: I Really Don't Know Read/Post Comments (0) |
2010-03-11 1:00 AM Is The Tri-Millenial Worth It? Student "edition" found at {thoughts dot com slash typed no space out no space loud slash blog}.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this blog now, not with everything that's been going on. More that three roman M pages in seven years! How many tweets would that be equivalent to? It would probably more than ten thousand, which would be another record in itself. @@ Anyway, major news today. The director of the school of engineering says that one of our perennial students, already in school for six years, forged his signature on a course card. The said student, a contemporary of our resident jail bird, went to the office of the registrar and demanded that his grade in chemistry be changed since he says he actually passed the course. First question: how did he know he failed the course? Did he get his transcript immediately beforehand? According to the teacher the student just showed up for one meeting then never again, including not even getting his course card. How the heck does he pass that course then? This sounds very much like desperation, as this is one of those students who are just taking and retaking courses without putting in much effort hoping that they would eventually get a teacher who would pass them just so as not to have them in class anymore. Everyone knows they do not make the effort, and they still have the same bad habits (absences, not studying, not passing requirements) up to their fifth and sixth years! And I keep telling the administrators this is the kind of publicity the school is getting. Students who are failing in more established campuses are being told by their peers to transfer here instead because it is easier to fool the teachers or at least talk them into a passing grade. And now with another of their ilk on the warpath against a teacher who is one of our graduates, there has to be a stop put to this otherwise they will be more overconfident next school year. Of course there is another problem here, the feeder school, also part of the district that bred them. It does not seem like a minority anymore when there are dozens of them here with the same attitudes. I guess there it is the influence of the money of the parents in the nearby palatial homes that makes the students believe they can bully the teachers into passing them. Maybe it is rat deserting a sinking ship time again, or, echoing the sentiments yesterday, do I bilge until my head is below sea level? Session 3001 hears the silence of the words hitting the vacuum. Class dismissed. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
