Il fait trop chaud aujourd'hui

Mood:
Overheated

Wow, it's been hot today. Fortunately, I work in a ferociously air-conditioned environment, so I'm spared it for most of today. But I got home 20 minutes ago, and my apartment's still baking. I have one fan going full blast. I'd like to get the other one going, but it's set way up high where only Daniel can reach it. Daniel is in Seattle. Duh.

Yep, I think it's about time I bought a step stool.

Despite the heat, today was a day of good things. The Supreme Court not only overturned the Texas sodomy law, it did so on the pleasingly rational basis that the state governments have no compelling interest that would justify their invading people's privacy to police sexual acts between consenting adults.

My little sister got a job! As an undergraduate advisor in the UCSD department of Economics. Yay! This means she's not moving to the Bay Area, at least not anytime soon, but she's happily employed. Very happily employed. It's a good job.

And Daniel turned in his first Clarion West story this morning. A 10,000 worder! Yikes! I don't think I ever cracked 5,000 words on a single story while I was at CW, and most of my output fit neatly in the 3,000-4,000 word range. I married a word machine! Go, boy, go!

Just to keep with the pattern, I should have had some really amazing work-related triumph today, but I didn't really. I had a good, productive day, but nothing to write home about.

And it's hot, and I'm tired, so I'm going to get off the computer (which is pumping out alarming amounts of heat) and go find a book and a cool drink.
