2003-08-12 11:08 AM Blaster Worm Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: Amused Read/Post Comments (0) Ah, the joys of working on a Windows XP system hooked up to a corporate network: we had our computers taken down by the W32.Blaster.Worm yesterday. Hearing every tech writer in the department let out a full-throated "Aaaargh!" simultaneously as all our computers shut down was amusing. Watching said computers continue to spontaneously reboot at intervals ranging from 38 seconds to 10 minutes 59 seconds (one of my coworkers, bless him, kept a meticulous time log) was less amusing. I drafted a few pages of manual with pencil and paper, and then decided that I didn't really want to wait around for the IT guys to come fix my computer, and managed to get my virus definitions updated and a patch applied between spontaneous reboots.
Anyway, if you are running a Windows 2000 or Windows XP system, do follow the link above and make sure you get the security patch and update your virus scanning software. So, yesterday was less productive than I might have liked. But I got a free lesson in computer security. Today, I'm at home. I've just paid a bunch of bills, and if I'm feeling brave, I might attempt to clean up my desk a bit. Or maybe not. I'm not really sure I feel that foolhardy today.
