My polling place is on the campus of the Berkeley Graduate Theological Union. I got to stand in line behind a Benedictine (I think - white robes) monk and a woman toting a giant 'Green Party Voting Guide'. Very Berkeley.
I don't know what voter turnout is normally like at 7:45 a.m., since in previous elections, I've voted much later in the day. It looked like they were doing pretty good business, though. I'm guessing we'll have high voter turnout for this one. For the past week, I've been coming home to find several minutes of pre-recorded messages from assorted political figures urging me to vote no on the recall. Next election I'm going to make myself a Bingo card and keep score. I got both Al Gore and Bill Clinton this time, though. Still looks like Schwarzenegger will probably win. Feh. I don't think he's likely to be a horrible governor, just an ineffectual one. (I think he's going to suffer the fate of most outsiders who come and promise to "clean house" and not "do business as usual" - he'll discover that it takes more than good intentions and macho posturing to get the dustbunnies out of government.) But Schwarzenegger's campaign has really cheesed me off - I find his determination to avoid taking specific positions on specific issues really insulting to me as a voter. And for someone who claims not to be a politician, he's had a classic politician's response to the sexual harrasment allegations. Ah, well. As usual, I'm actually more interested in the results of the votes on the two propositions. I'm very much hoping that neither of them passes. Anyway, time for me to get back to work. Later.
