Yes, I'm still alive. Thought I should post a quick entry just to reassure folks on that point.

World Fantasy Con was fun! Expect a full con report in a day or two. I think I managed to strike something close to the optimal mix of panels, readings, parties, and hanging out this time 'round. Though there were still lots of people I'd have liked to see more of. And I didn't quite manage to get enough sleep.

I haven't managed to get enough sleep since getting back, either, due to a combination of early morning meetings at work, and a certain tendency to stay up late reading Ellen Kushner and Delia Sherman's The Fall of the Kings. (Ellen and Delia were both at WFC, and I'm really excited about their forthcoming works, but more on that in the con report.)

I came back from WFC firmly resolved to finish the fantasy short story I've been messing around with for what feels like forever, and then to get to work on a novel thereafter. So, of course, I've started a new science fiction story. Sigh. There are times to be disciplined, and there are times to let the muse lead you where she will. I think this is one of the latter, though I could wish for a muse less easily distra-oooh, look, butterflies!

Work has been hectic this week. We're printing a whole bunch of manuals, and I've been reviewing proofs and printed copies of my own work, as well as doing final pre-publication edits on other people's. A printing company that shall remain nameless made a terrific botch of several of my manuals. Fortunately, we have time to make fixes on those.

I am rather proud of a particular copyediting catch I made - I was reading a section on electrical safety and realized that a sentence that read, "Do connect the foo directly to the bar" (I paraphrase; there is no foo to be found on our instruments) should have read, "Do not connect the foo directly to the bar." Always remember: an improperly grounded foo can give you a nasty nasty shock.

I was both delighted and dismayed to discover that Final Fantasy X-2 has had its release date moved up to November 18th. I can't wait! But I'm still trying to finish Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy IX. (Actually, I'm pretty close on FFIX - I've hit the stage where you've done 90% of the plot and are just freeform adventuring until you're tough enough to take on the big baddie. Kingdom Hearts is trickier because it actually requires hand-eye coordination.)

Okay, time for me to get back to work!
