Today is my company's summer party. It'll be at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. Company parties are kind of weird, but this should be fun - I've never been to the Boardwalk, and my coworkers are generally pretty fun people. And most of them have never met Daniel, and are quite eager to meet him. And I'll get to meet a whole array of coworkerly spouses, significant others, kids. Tomorrow, Mary Anne's birthday party, up in Oakland. Should also be fun. (It's very nice of Mary Anne to keep having birthday parties in the Bay Area even when she's living in Chicago.) Not much else to report. I had a very productive week at work. (Though I felt rather Sisyphean on the day I was doing bug fixes to an online Help project: I started the day with eight bugs; I fixed 10 bugs, and had 2 bugs left over at the end of the day. How does that add up?) I also finished a draft of an application note for marketing, and am trying not to bite my nails while I wait for feedback. It'll be fine. I know it will be fine. I even dare to hope that they'll actually be pleased by what I've put together. But it's my first application note, and so a tiny part of me will worry that somehow I've managed to do it totally wrong until I get the feedback that tells me that's not the case. I've been reading Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe series. Started with Sharpe's Eagle (which was the first published, though no longer the first in the chronological action of the series), and am now reading Sharpe's Rifles (which is now usually numbered as the first of the series, even though Cornwell has written subsequent books that take place even further back in the chronology. Confused yet?) I'm really enjoying them - they're just the sort of book I'm in the mood for right now. Interesting characters, lots of action, and some pleasant historical trivia. (It's also interesting, since I've seen the tv movies of Sharpe's Rifles and Sharpe's Eagle, to look at how they were adapted to the screen. I'm a little peeved that the sexy Spanish guerilla chick love interest is, apparently, entirely the invention of the screenwriter. Not surprised, really, just a bit peeved.) Okay, I've got to hit the road. Talk to you later! Read/Post Comments (3) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
