I spent a lovely Christmas not-celebrating it with 14 of the very dearest members of my family. I also phoned my grandparents Florida to wish them a Merry Christmas. My parents were there, as well as my Aunt Nancy and Uncle Rudy. My sister, Stephanie, was supposed to have joined them, but Delta Airlines up and cancelled her flight and then couldn't get her on another one for 2 or 3 days. Delta also managed to lose Nancy and Rudy's luggage. I suppose under the circumstances I should be glad that they managed not to lose Nancy and Rudy. I think that members of my family will be avoiding Delta for a while. (Last December, they cancelled the flight that Daniel and I were supposed to take to Florida. They did manage to find us another one, but we ended up actually spending the bulk of our Christmas Eve in Atlanta airport. Phooey.) Anyway, when I called Florida, everyone asked me how the weather was, because they were having horrible weather. And so I said, "Oh, we're having a nice sunny Christmas." So, I think you can blame the weather on me. I think I jinxed it. Sorry. Anyway, the day after Christmas, we went to the Palace of the Legion of Honor with Ross, Susan, and Diana (Daniel's dad, mom, and sister, for those of you keeping score at home) to see the Mayan courtly art exhibit. It was nifty, although a bit too crowded for the best viewing experience. I think my favorite items were the jade masks, and a pot lid in the shape of a rather cheery spider monkey with some cacao beans. I was also just generally impressed by how much more we seem to know about the Maya than we did the last time I studied them in school. I'm going to have to go get some books and catch up on the new research. And I actually managed to get us home in the dark and occasionally very heavy rains without getting us lost or dead. Yay! (I think I am starting to get the hang of driving in the rain, but it still kind of scares me.) Anyway, I'm off to have some dinner. Happy holidays, everyone!
