Getting ready to move

So, we're going to be moving sometime in early May. The owners of our current place want to sell it, as I think I've mentioned here before, and Daniel has found us a new place to rent. I haven't seen it yet, but it sounds lovely. Daniel's got excellent taste in such matters, probably better than mine. As far as I'm concerned, if the roof doesn't leak, all the electrical outlets work, and the carpet isn't orange, I can live with the rest.

Well, okay, that's not literally true. I put two conditions on Daniel as far as our new place goes. They were 1)The new location should not significantly increase my commute to work and 2)If it came down to a choice between two equally nice places, and one of them had a gas stove, pick the one with the gas stove.

Daniel met both of those - the new place is about a block and a half from our current one, and it has a gas stove.

What it doesn't have are three major appliances: a washer, a dryer, and a refrigerator. So we get to go shopping for them. Or rather, I get to go shopping for them. When Daniel told me we needed to buy a washer, I said, "Oh! Does that mean that we can get one of the cool front-loading ones that does a better job of washing your clothes with less detergent!?" And Daniel looked at me and said, "Why don't I delegate this one to you?"

This is truly one of the secrets of a harmonious household, folks - know when to delegate.

So, I've got to pick out a washer, a dryer, and a refrigerator. This'll be my first foray into the realm of durable household goods purchases. (You know, when I bought a car for the first time, a little part of me said to myself, "Alright, now I'm really a grown up." I have a feeling that a different little part of me will say the same thing when I take delivery of my first washing machine.)

I should probably call my mother and get some advice. (She has one of those cool front-loading washing machines.) Any of my readers out there bought major household appliances lately? Got any advice?
