Not really having a great morning

I'm not having a great morning.

First, sometime around 5:00 a.m., our upstairs smoke alarm malfunctioned. Malfunctioned as in emitting two loud beeps every minute. After many attempts to fix it, Daniel got on the phone to the company that makes them, and they told him how to shut it off, and they are sending us a new smoke alarm, since the old one is under warranty. Yay for customer service.

Finally got back to sleep, and slept late. After breakfasting, I got on the phone to Blue Cross of California, trying to resolve an insurance snafu that has resulted in a bill for three office visits going unpaid for a year and a half. Person A is helpful, but can't solve my problem, so she transfers me to another system, which turns out to be only for providers and won't talk to me unless I can put in a tax id number. So I get the operator, and she transfers me to another number, where they aren't able to access my data, and so they direct me to call...yes...the first number.

Oookay.

At this point, I decide I'll try writing a letter.

Our laser printer goes haywire, and won't print my carefully composed missive. I tinker with it for a bit, decide I don't have time to troubleshoot it now, fantasize about taking a sledgehammer to it and buying a new printer.

I pack myself a lunch, and go to work. I discover that I've left my wallet (which I'd taken out of my pocket in order to consult my insurance ID card) on my desk at home. So I have no driver's license, no cash, and most immediately vexing, no keycard badge to get me in to work.

The receptionist is out of temporary keycard badges. The first coworker I have her call to let me in isn't at her desk.

Finally, somebody comes out the door and so I go in.

The office printers have all gone haywire too.

I'm at my desk at work. I'm going to stay here, working on my manual, until it is time for me to go home. Then I will go home, driving very carefully. Then I will make some dinner, and after dinner, I will go curl up with a book somewhere and hope that tomorrow will be a better day.
