College Slam

Mood:
Happy

Last night after my poetry class I went to the student union and got there just in time for the college team final slam to begin. There were 7 poets and three rounds and Nick Fox read Ernest Cline's "Airwolf" as a calibration poem. I wasn't feeling well, and I couldn't hear really well, although that might be because of the acoustics in java.com Anyhow all seven poets were awesome, and I was honored to read a clearing poem in the last round. Nick told me I could do whatever I wanted, so I read his famous piece "Strike Three" in a slowed down tempo with exagerrated pauses and yells. I told the audience to picture Nick Fox on Methadone. I didn't get to see Dawn Saylor and Lucy Anderton read but I will tonight.
1st place was Jon Conry, second was John Kofonow, third was Brent Heffron, 4th was Dom Flemons, with Logan Phillips taking the alternate spot. These folks will get to represent Northern Arizona University next Month at the College Union Slam in Cleveland, Ohio.
I may slam tonight, but I only had four hours sleep. On the otherhand, I wrote 2 new pieces last night after the slam, so I am aching to throw these down.
and I won't be slamming again until the Semis at the end of March. I listened fully to Soul Evans C.D. and I really dig "Everything," "After the Fourth Love of My Life..." "She's Slipping Away" and "Executive Order 9066" all of which you can check out on his web site at www.soulevans.com or you can see him perform some of these on his 60 city tour which is coming to a cafe near you!
Sayanara! I mean Ciao!, uh bye.
