Humanities 125 Spring 2010 Monday Nights 6-8:45 East Peoria The Shock of the New meets the Wisdom of the Ages In addition to our thin but awesome textbook The Humanistic Tradition Vol. 6 Ed. by Gloria Fiero, we will read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig, Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, African American Poetry(Dover Thrift), some poems by Emily Dickinson (Dover Thrift), some Confucius(Dover Thrift), Notes From The Underground by Fyodor Dostoevsky(Dover Thrift), some other cool things and discuss contemporary art, music, and popular culture. Students will take 2 exams, write a paper, keep a journal and do cool presentations on art and the world around us. We will have a good time, work hard, and party like it’s 2099!
