2008 Books #15 Alcatraz versus the Evil Librarians

First of all, how could the self-respecting daughter of a librarian such as myself ever pass up such a title? ( Alcatraz Versus the Evil Libarians) Yes, I had to read it. And it was by Mistborn's author, Brandon Sanderson, (only billed as YA) so I didn't have the highest expectations in the world.

But you know what? It kicked all kinds of ass. Yep, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, not only for the cool idea behind having a "talent" that normally would make you an object of pity, but ends up saving you at odd moments, but also for the wacky voice this is written in.

The main good guys are all named after famous prisons (Leavenworth, bastille, sing sing, etc) , I mean, how much more wacky can it get?

I mean, really, he breaks all kinds of writing conventions. The cliffhanger opening that turns out to be a red herring, the constant interrupting of action for long digressions, etc. etc.

It all worked. I loved it.

Highly recommended, and I'll be on the lookout for the next in the series.
