This one is for my mom and stepmom:
Maisie Dobbs is about a nurse during World War I who sets herself up as a private investigator in London later on.

It mostly deals with how different classes and people experienced the war and the tragedy of the aftermath.

Excellent historical details and insight into Britain of that time. :)

No funny speculative stuff, either.
