Not only is that New Years Eve *tosses confetti* –but it also is my 19th Wedding Anniversary to the brave and long-suffering sweetie of mine, David. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!
Hope you all have a safe and wonderful New Year's celebration. PLEASE REMEMBER –fireworks do EXPLODE????? Do not hold them in your hands to find out! DUH
This month’s newsletter contains the latest publishing’s and 2004 projects for Brutal Dreamer, a featured Brutal Dreamer review, and a special contest to start the new year off with, just for you all.

Brutal’s BODY HORROR
Poem & vignette
at the TERRORS!

December 22, 2003, just in time for Christmas, Terror Tales re-launched! My vignette WITHIN MY DEATH GALLERY went live, as did my poem BIZARRE ZOMBIE BABY CASKET. To read these pieces please drop by and see the beautiful page Hertzan and his staff created. I was truly surprised to see how magnificent and elegant the page looks. Read my poetry at: http://www.terrortales.org/poetry/brutal.asp
Bizarre Zombie Baby Casket started out as a short gorelet. Michael Arnzen’s FRIDGE OF THE DAMNED -- http://www.gorelets.com/ then mutated into this longer version and published in the BIZARRE issue of The Dream People. (Thanks for the inspiration, Michael)
My NEW Terror Tale Forum also went live –it is free to register and post. Enjoy! Drop by and tell me with BRUTAL HONESTY what you thought of the pieces up at Terror Tales and how your holidays went… or anything else you wish to post like what kind of kitty chow you buy for your cat. To view and post on my forum go to: http://www.terrortales.org/forum/
Scroll down to BRUTAL DREAMER and click me! Have fun! Come on and go over there NOW and quit putting it off! You want to drop in and have some brutal fun, right?

2004:
A NEW YEAR
With
NEW PROJECTS and GOALS

I remember this time last year: I was antsy as my first edited project was due to be published February 2003. I thought the time would never arrive but it did. Cemetery Poets: Grave Offerings Anthology, was my first big, edited project. It was a success and started 2003 out right for me (and several other authors). The project spawned several other projects for 2003. Now here we are at the beginning of a new year again!
On December 3, 2003 (which happens to have been my Grandfather’s Birthday) Walter Diociaiuti contacted me about an Anthology he was compiling. I will open 2004 by joining this Italian author on his venture.
I am waiting for a few other projects from 2003 to unfold as well.
CHIM&HER Anthology (edited by Hertzan Chimera, Published by CyberPulp), TERROR TALES vol.2 Anthology (edited by Paul Kane and John B. Ford, Published by Rainfall Press), WICKED WILL LAUGH Anthology (edited by John Edward Lawson, Published by?), AMAZZONI [edited by Walter Diociaiuti] to be published by UBOOKS (Germany) and GHOST EDIZIONI (Italy) and a few other projects to unfurl their wings and take flight.

WRITER’S HOOD ANTHOLOGY
Dilemma

I have no idea what is up the Writer’s Hood Best of Horror Anthology. Horror Editor, The Writer’s Hood, Susan Zoon, contacted me twice about this project and I agreed to join her in this venture and to co-edit this anthology. I have not been able to contact her via e-mail or her message forum at the Writer’s Hood. I would say for now, that project is a dead fish. If she contacts me, I’ll let you all know. Until then… glub-glub. I have given up worrying with the project because it’s time consuming and I do not have the time to touch base and play tag and keep getting no responses. If you hear anything from Susan –by all means, send me the information at brutaldreamer@msn.com or brutal@brutaldreamer.com either e-address. [Susan if you are around –I sincerely hope you are okay and healthy.]

December 18, 2003 (on my Brother’s Birthday –Happy B-day, Robert) I received the news that OUT OF THE DARKNESS & INTO THE LIGHT edited by AD Dawson accepted my flash fiction story, DEATH be not PROUD.
Death, be not proud is, for me - and I hope you don’t mind me saying, Dear Brutal Dreamer - is the finest example of the Neo-Gothic I have read in a long time. –A.D. Dawson
A.D., I didn’t mind this comment (compliment) at all. Thanks for publishing the story and for praising it so highly. Many thanks. I hope more enjoy it as much as you did.

A BRUTAL DREAMER
Feature Review
GUARDER FACTOR by Shawn P. Madison!

I read and reviewed THE GUARDER FACTOR by Shawn P. Madison last night (finally)
Have you all read Shawn Madision's GUARDER LORE novel? If so, then you were waiting for the release of Guarder Factor! HOLY SHIT! I read it all in two sittings and was blown away -literally. He sure as hell packs a punch.
Here’s the review of the Guarder Factor:

THE GUARDER FACTOR by SHAWN P MADISION
©2003 Reviewed by BRUTAL DREAMER

Are you ready for Standard U.E.N. FlightForce procedure? We’ve all been on full alert since the release of the first novel, Guarder Lore, and we’ve anxiously waited for the second in the series: Guarder Factor. The Guarders have come back and given its fans more pirates, spaceships, and warring planets than we dare wish for. Yet, the Guarder Factor does so most splendidly. When I first read Guarder Lore, it was in short story segments and read much like a variety of short stories stitched together more so than a complete novel (that wasn’t a bad thing). Guarder Factor is exactly what you would expect of a novel: flowing from chapter to chapter instead of story-by-story creating an excellent mutation into a novel length work of fiction.

Shawn has created a world within this masterpiece and kept the feel of a classic science fiction novel writing true! He has developed his characters to fullness --so much so that you get a feel of the humanity and the extreme situation all at once when Buzzer’s young partner, Razor, finds humor in the fact that Guarder Buzzer takes on the entire CharterCity Police. Buzzer’s human side kicks in and he realizes the seriousness of his actions and what he danger could have occurred relying on a young rookie for backup. Buzzer is the type of warrior that generally does his warring without regards for others and goes in kicking ass and asking no questions.

One of my most favorite science fiction slash horror writers, Shawn P. Madison, has released another horrifying space sagas and has opened in a major explosion. From the first page of the Guarder Factor, you know you are in for a bumpy ride. You feel the helplessness, the horror, and the finality approaching of the hammering attacks. At this point, when it’s all over, and the screen goes dark, you know a hellacious judgment is on its way and isn’t going to pretty but it will be just and there will be no doubts because it’s coming with Guarder Buzzer attached to it.

Buzzer’s young partner, a rookie, Razor, brings an air of distinctness and humanity to the legendary Guarder, Buzzer. Of course, like all highly documented heroes, Buzzer is not well received: no one likes another big fish pissing in their pond and taking their glory. Buzzer certainly becomes more three-dimensional in this installment and although well regarded he is much despised by his cohorts especially on the Ruffian. Buzzer keeps all (even the bigwigs) in their place and stops at nothing to investigate a major upheaval.

Shawn gracefully writes science fiction with a strong flair of horror bleeding from its core! His writing is natural and you feel what is taking place, from the pounding in the chest of gunfire and explosions down to the horrors of the aftermath. As a reader you are under the gunfire and your ears will ring as the detonation of the GUARDER FACTOR goes off! You’ll experience all the adventure and action taking place it will be reeling in your minds eye. Shawn has a constant endowment finding the details and keeping them interesting, suspenseful, and gut retching and making sure his readers feel and see every factor --The Guarder Factor!

My next reviews will be: DRAGGED INTO THE DARKNESS by Simon Wood and the CROSSINGS Anthology, edited by Megan Powell. I’ll post those reviews with my next newsletter. (I am rather slow at getting around to the reviews, and I must apologize!]
Thank you for your patience Megan and Simon.
In case you all didn’t know and it slipped my mind to tell you. I have a new journal –well, I don’t update it as frequently as I should but I am getting better at doing so… I have it set up for you to post comments over there too. Drop by any time.

A sweet thought for the day
that does the body good!

Please keep a very good friend of mine, his nephew, in your thoughts, and positive wishes. His nephew has just gone under double lung transplant and has good days and bad days…. Please, if you would, keep this little two-year old sweetie, Walker, in your thoughts! Just maybe with all the positive energy we focus on, Walker will be singing more songs to the Wiggles and doing much more exploring with Dora years to come. My love and get well wishes to you, Walker.

Brutal Dreamer
