Golfing Madness

After seeing the weekend weather forecasts, it looked like we'd be stuck indoors this weekend. Today the dark clouds failed to produce rain, so we decided to visit yet another mini-golf course!

We've been to quite a few mini-golf courses this past summer - nearly all the ones in the local area and we even went to one in Egg Harbor on our recent Door County, Wisconsin trip. Our golfing madness seems quite strange, but oddly comforting at the same time. I won by a narrow margin today, but Carrie usually puts me to shame. Today we also went to the adjoining driving-range, where we demonstrated our finest improper technique :) Sadly the mini-golf season is just about over, so the madness must end!

After visiting a hardware store for a gift certificate (we've got a surprise birthday party to go to tomorrow), we popped across to Borders to have a look at what's new in the way of books. I noticed Neal Stephenson has a new book out, titled QuickSilver, which looked fairly interesting. The blurb mentioned this was part of his new 3-part Baroque cycle, but I didn't really get a clear idea of what the whole thing was about. The only novel of his I've read so far is Snowcrash which was a pretty good cyberpunk thing. I also have Cryptonomicon - it's a big, hulking book with lots of mentions of cryptographic algorithms and history. Methinks I'll try and read that before sampling some of his other work.

While we were at Borders I also took a look at Neil Gaiman's Sandman graphic novels. There's been a lot of buzz behind the newest in the series : Endless Nights, so I thought I'd see what all the fuss is about. Since they sell at RRP at Borders, I thought I'd order from Amazon instead :)

A recent issue of Locus focused on graphic novels. They seemed to rave about the Sandman series, along with others like Transmetropolitan, V for Vendetta, and Watchmen. Things have really come a long way since I read superhero comics and Tintin back in the 80s!

Finally for dinner we went to the Singaporean Grill restaurant, which seemed to be quite popular. The food was great and they had these tasty little rolls they'd serve with each course. Highly recommended :)
