Earlier this evening I finished reading Kurt Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle. That was a real page-turner with plenty of humour and a plot that initially seems all over the place, but actually comes together in the end.

The book is divided into 127 chapters with appropriately witty titles and nicely flowing prose. Cat's Cradle covers the journey of one man intending to write a book entitled The Day the World Ended. He begins his research by learning about the life of one of the fathers of the atom bomb - Felix Hoenikker. He travels across the world, eventually reaching a small island where he learns of his ultimate destiny.

Between witty observations on life, religion and history, Vonnegut fills the novel with amusing calypso verse and the protagonist's coming to terms with a fictional religion (Bokonoism). Highly recommended for those looking to sample Kurt Vonnegut's work and for fans alike.

Later on we rented some more movies - Identity, Brazil, and About Schmidt. We just finished watching Identity which is a suspense-thriller starring John Cusack. The plot had some interesting twists which kept us guessing right up until the end. Not as scary as the trailer made it out to be, but still well worth checking out! I'll post some thoughts on the other movies after we've watched them.

What I'm Reading:
Analog Science Fiction & Fact, June 2003
Locus, October 2003
