This morning I received an email from my parents informing me that my best mate in Australia had been hit by a car the Friday before last. They got a call from his mother, who had just gotten back from Sydney after rushing there to be with him.

He was walking back to work after parking his car when the accident happened. Apparently he didn't even see it coming, despite looking both ways before crossing the road, and a witness didn't know where the car came from either.

Needless to say, he's in pretty bad shape. I won't go into details here. If it wasn't for the fact that he worked so close to the nearest hospital, the news could've been considerably worse. He was in the emergency room within 9 minutes of the accident happening.

Apparently he's had a lot of surgery already, and there is more to come. The miracle of the whole thing is that he doesn't appear to have sustained any brain damage and his spine is intact. From what I hear he's already keen to get out of the hospital, and sent his apologies for not being able to send a card for my upcoming birthday! It seems he has no problems with his memory if he can remember an obscure date like that...

I've known him since we were kids, and he even flew over here to be the best man at our wedding. I still can't believe this has happened. I was getting a bit worried when I hadn't heard from him via email for over a week, but I figured he was just busy. I guess he was :(

Here's hoping he has a swift recovery. Get well soon, bloke.
