The Great Amazon.com rebate scam (or not?)

Hopping mad

Last December I was crowing about a new phone I'd bought from Amazon.com. The phone is great, but it turns out it wasn't such a great deal after all.

The rebate form states that the second month's cellphone bill must be sent (to show you've at least paid for your first month) along with the rebate form and whatever else they wanted. It must also be postmarked no later than today.

But the real laugh-out-loud funny part of this is that I haven't received my 2nd month's bill yet!

I was all set to mail off the rebate as soon as the bill came in, but I guess I'm out of luck! I sent off an email to Amazon.com customer service this evening, asking what the deal with this is and how I'm expected to be able to submit the rebate in time. Like most customer service these days, I'll probably get brushed aside and told that they're ever so sorry, but it's... just... TOO... BAD!

So, the lesson from all this? Unless you can stand to pay full price (before rebate), don't bother! I feel sorry for the suckers out $300 from the rebates they offer on some other phones.

*sigh* I'll post a writing-related entry later on tonight after my boiling blood has cooled somewhat....

Update 2/15: Got an email from Amazon today. They reckon they'll make an exception in this instance, and I should just send everything in once I get that second bill. Fingers crossed :)

Update 2/23: Second bill arrived today, so now I can send the rebate form off!

Update 5/13: Finally received the rebate cheque the other day! Phew :)
