I was tempted to give the writing a miss tonight, since it was getting so late, and I needed more time to ponder what happens next in the new story I've been working on.

I decided breaking the routine would be a bad idea, so I worked on something else instead. I wrote a tentative 363 word opening for another story idea from the notebook. It didn't turn out too badly for 15 or 20 minutes work, although I'd probably need to rework it from scratch if I felt like continuing the tale. In any case, it gave those fiction writing muscles some exercise, and saved my proverbial '100-word-a-day' bacon, too :)
