We're out of town for the weekend for a cousin's wedding, so it's going to be tricky to keep up with the daily word count. I should manage okay, provided I alter the routine a little and do some writing tomorrow morning.

Tonight I continued the story begun a few days ago, and wrote another 326 words. To ease confusion about which story is which, from now on I'll refer to this one as the 'magic box' story.

While it is progressing reasonably well, I'm finding it is reading more like a summary of events than a smoothly flowing story. I'm not planning on abandoning it, since even a summary of events can be useful for learning more about the characters, scenes, and what it is actually about. Assuming I figure this out, I can extract the core concepts and scenes and rework it into something that reads a little better.

I suspect that this 'plot summary' problem is a result of reading a fair bit of Lovecraft lately, which tends to involve tellings of stories rather than showing the scenes taking place, if you get what I mean. Perhaps I should put that collection aside for now and read something else?
