Listen...

I discovered Kurt Vonnegut's work only fairly recently (within the last 10 years). His books came highly recommended by a friend, who is generally a good judge of good yarns. I read Slaughterhouse-Five and Cat's Cradle, and was struck by how different this bloke's writing was from anything else. I loved the casual, down-to-earth quality of it, as if he were just spinning a yarn and having a great time doing it. There's more to it than that obviously, as I realized while pondering what I'd just read.

Last year I listened to audiobooks of his short story collection, Welcome to Monkey House, and another novel, Breakfast of Champions, both of which I enjoyed immensely. As I write this entry, TimeQuake beckons from the shelf nearby. It reminds me I should catch up on some of his other work.

Alas, all good things must come to an end, and Kurt Vonnegut is no exception. So it goes....

Goodbye Sir, and thanks for all the great yarns.
