Brainsalad The frightening consequences of electroshock therapy I'm a middle aged government attorney living in a rural section of the northeast U.S. I'm unmarried and come from a very large family. When not preoccupied with family and my job, I read enormous amounts, toy with evolutionary theory, and scratch various parts on my body. This journal is filled with an enormous number of half-truths and outright lies, including this sentence. |

2003-05-25 9:00 AM Doing the music thing There is a fair amount of musical talent in my family, probably coming from my father's side. Everyone in his family played a musical instrument or sang. My brother's 7 and 12 of 12 are musically talented enough to be able to make a living performing. 7 is the Intel engineer but when he was younger a couple of famous musicians offered to sponsor him into Julliard. 12 of 12 is getting his PhD in music theory and is a very good guitarist.
I think I've always had a decent ear for music and a very nice baritone singing voice, but I've never followed up on it. My sister 2 of 12 hated the school music teacher and for some reason I dropped out of chorus at the same time she did. So anyway, I had promised myself that as soon as I finished "Darwin's Cathedral" by David Sloan Wilson (2002) my next project would be to try to learn to play piano. I bought a program called "Teach Me Piano Deluxe" yesterday and have been fiddling around with it this morning. I've spent a lot of time playing computer games the last few years and I thought I might try to focus that energy more productively. This program I bought can make learning music like a video game. I've still got to buy a MIDI keyboard to make the whole thing work, but I pick one of those up for about $100.00. Then we'll see if I can do it. Late 30's is a bit old to be taking up a musical instrument, but who knows. I had a client in his 80s getting his masters in engineering. Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
