An early morning post (well, as early as 8:35 is to some people... I've been up since 3:30 this morning) just to get some stuff down... It's not always doom and gloom with this one... :-)

I got a proof of the magazine back from one of our associate editors (a particularly hard one) and he had generally positive remarks. There are always mistakes, as no magazine is ever perfect. Something always slips through the cracks. I was not looking for positive remarks, as my process has been very uncoordinated this time.

But, I managed to pull it together into a fairly decent issue. I don't think its my best ever, but there are some really creative designs that I came up with, even if I do say so myself. It's nice to be able to switch between copy-editing (which I am good at) and layout and graphic design (which I have improved at quite a bit). In fact, my boss seems very impressed with my output, and says I have a great eye for layout. This means a lot, as my predecessors set the bar fairly high, and also because I had no formal training, and have been largely self-taught.

At any rate, I have corrections to make this morning, and have also been tasked with "punching up" the language in a promotional e-mail/webpage for a film debuting on the museum's IMAX in June. It's always very flattering to me when other departments ask me to do these things. Though I often have self-doubts (as do all people who think they are stretching the limits of what they can do), I know that I'm capable and look forward to producing something else that will be seen by thousands of people, and will hopefully influence them to come out and see the film.

And the Blue Angels are coming back to Sherman Field here in Pensacola next week. They usually practice every Tuesday and Wednesday between the end of March and the end of September, and my office is on the third floor of the museum, with a huge bank of windows looking out onto the flight line. It's always cool to look up from a text or my computer screen to see the near-Mach 1 low pass... It shakes the windows and the humidity and atmospheric conditions around here usually produce some cool condensation rings/trails around the F/A-18s. It looks really cool.

And I'm looking forward to the weekend. I'm going to a local concert tonight with Jah and the weekend weather looks nice, so I hope to get outside and "play" some... Of course, there's also the mundane apartment cleaning and laundry to do, but I'm even looking forward to that (Maybe I am crazy). :-)

So, if I don't post before then, fellow 'scapers, have a great weekend and take care of yourselves.
