2006-04-10 9:43 AM U for Update Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (2) The following events took place between the hours of 18:45 PM March 25, 2006 and 09:43 AM, April 10, 2006...
Since my last posting, a mottling of moderately meaningful occurrences have manifested themselves among the more mundane meanderings of my modern life. To wit, a few excerpts of the last two weeks: We attended the visitation and funeral for VADM Fetterman. The visitation was quite the event, and we saw people from all walks in Pensacola paying their final respects. The funeral was a very nice ceremony, if a bit long. But again, many important people paid their final respects to a man who was, obviously, well-respected. We went bowling with some of Janel's friends and a friend of mine from work. We had a fun time and agreed that we (meaning Janel and I and whoever else) should do stuff like that more often. We saw V for Vendetta in the theater, and, while I enjoyed the movie, I noticed a number of things about the moviegoing experience that seem to detract from, well, the moviegoing experience. Among other things, the people who often sit right behind or in front of you sometimes utter (or shout, depending on the culprit) some of the most inane things during key portions of the film. Did that person really ask what "Void" on an identification card means? That and the fact that someone opened the door of the projection room, which cast inordinate amounts of light on the screen, washing out the left side of the image for a couple of minutes. And the 4 dollar bottle of water (Disney charges 2.50, and that's gracious plenty!), and exhibitors and studios wonder why attendance is in sharp decline... We also watched King Kong, Capote, Good Night and Good Luck at home. We only have to watch the two cowboy movies (Brokeback and Walk the Line) to have seen all nominated films for best picture this year... I know, two months after the Oscars, but we like to see the nominated films. Today, we had to take Gatsby (our faithful canine companion) to the vet to have his heartworm treatment. He has been recuperating the past couple of weeks from his deballsification... He will be there for a few days as they give him his first course of treatment. Then, we keep him quiet and calm for at least 30 days, not an easy task. He is such a good dog, but he does like to play, and will sometimes run with no abandon... we have to keep him from doing so, or else he could die of an embolism. This weekend, we have Easter lunch/dinner (dunch or linner... or maybe lupper) with the formerly estranged side of the family. And maybe some Easter candy, too.
