So there is so much more going on in David's life than dropping off the weight chart.

Other vitals

His height and head are in the fiftieth percentile. Except for the cold (which Rose and I also have), he's perfectly healthy.

Crawling

All over the place. We were hanging out in the kitchen. I turned around and he was in the bathroom, heading straight for the toilet. He motors.

Pulling to standing

on the bathtub edge to watch the ducky fight the drain, on the toilet bowl which I have so far managed to have closed, on his sister's play stove—lots of great spatulas and pink spoons there, and of course, the coffee table with the sharp corners.

One foot kind of twists away sometimes and his legs start to slide into the splits, but he's not backing down from this skill; he loves access to all of Rose's art projects that I have carefully placed in the middle of the coffee table. This is just a secret plot to make me a tidy person.

Climbing the stairs

That started tonight when he was supposed to be asleep. (See if he were sleep trained we wouldn't have to deal with this.) He really did get up a step. He held his balance, brought a knee up, another knee, and then both legs back to standing. I know I've said it before, but watching someone master a new skill, I am awestruck.

Signing

I'm jumping the gun a bit on this one. He's not really signing yet though we keep showing him "more" and "all done." But he was all done in his high chair and he lifted his arms straight up. It was a completely clear baby "up." It's kind of equivalent of him saying dadadada, and everyone saying look, he's calling Daddy. But, we reinforced it, and I'll bet he's doing it for real soon.

Adoring his sister

David was getting mucho bored with me. He did not want to read the book about puppies. He did not want to follow the red lobster around the floor as it went clickity-clack. Then Rose walked in the door, and he was all grins.

David was almost asleep, and he heard his sister laughing hysterically downstairs. He sat up, grinned, and nothing would have it but heading down to watch the Daddy and Rose gigglerama.
