Our friend Jed came to visit today. What a delight for everyone. There was some jostling for his attention. At one point, he was discussing his new iphone with John, reading David a story in his lap, admiring the picture of Hansa that Rose showed him, and responding to my analysis of Harry Potter.

John and I know Jed from college, so a dear friend for over twenty years. He has family in the area and comes up a couple times a year. Rose has adored Jed from the day she met him, and this from a shy child. I have a lovely picture or the two of them curled on the couch reading a book.

Now, David has fallen in love as well. We have never seen David take to someone so quickly. First, he wanted Jed to hold his hand and walk around with him. Then he told Jed to sit down, so David could sit in his lap. After stories, David let Jed carry him downstairs.

Jed sometimes gets nervous that he is taking advantage and being the “fun” adult—get all the good time and leave the clean up to the parents. It’s true there was a lot more whining and bickering post-visit, but I wouldn’t trade.
