the case of the missing Christmas present

More than anything else, John wanted to watch the Red Sox win the World Series again and again and again. So, six weeks before Christmas, I called up the Major League Baseball shop and ordered the complete dvd set. I just thought the 40 minute wait to get an operative was everyone else as excited about the win as we were. I brushed off them getting my order wrong three times. I should have seen it as a sign.

Then I waited, and waited, and waited. Christmas eve, no present. We left town the 26th. When we came back the 30th and still no present, I started calling. MLB said they had handed off to DHL. DHL said they had handed off to UPS. UPS said they had never received it, but, it had just been scanned in Kentucky. Kentucky? Turns out Kentucky was the distribution center, so it had been returned.

MLB said call DHL no UPS no. . . The nice operative ( #5 that I talked to?) said, “I hope no one is listening in on this call, but you should call back Monday, ask for a supervisor and make a big stink. Ask for your money back.” In the meantime, John and I ordered it for less through Amazon.

I had my tracking code. I had my story. I called back and got my money back. Except, they didn’t refund the shipping. It was only $7.00. But, as my friend Michelle would say, “Sometimes it’s the principle of the thing.” I had never received it. I was not going to pay the shipping.

I called MLB and started to make my big stink. The operative said I couldn’t get the shipping. I asked for a supervisor. He said he’d transfer me, and he hung up. Oh yes, on purpose. Because I called back and the next operative yes ma’am’d the heck out of me, said all the supervisors were in a meeting, but he could go ahead and refund that money no problem. And I got my money back.
