gluten free at Whole Foods

We are going to Disney World in a few weeks. Yippee! We don't want to eat every meal out, but we couldn't bring our stocks with us on the cruise we are taking beforehand (!), most grocery stores near the park don't carry gluten free food, and we have very picky eaters. It wasn't going to do us any good to find a loaf of g-f bread if the kids were going to turn up their noses at it. So, we hatched this crazy plan. We decided to check out the Whole Foods near our house, find out which foods the kids would eat, which foods they also carried at the store in Orlando, and make a shopping list.

David and I did the reconnaissance on Thursday, hungry. Oops. That's how we ended up with two loaves of bread (important for taste testing comparisons), blueberry muffins (a completely unnecessary impulse buy), huge chocolate cupcakes (yes, we had two birthday parties this week-end, but we also have cupcakes in our freezer; this was another completely unnecessary impulse buy), two boxes of cookies, two boxes of crackers, and three fruit leather to be eaten immediately.

The bad news is we spent a ridiculous amount of money. This is why I don't shop at Whole Foods. The good news is the kids liked most of it. Both breads were acceptable with one gaining the high accolade, "This tastes like Grammy bread." David didn't like the blueberry muffins, but Rose did. And what's not to like about huge chocolate cupcakes with mounds of icing?

Since the bread is baked in Texas and sent to the Whole Foods around the country, I'm assuming they'll have it in Orlando. Now, to make my shopping list and send it there.
