the expurgated version

I think rituals like this are very important. We all know I'm anti testing, so this may sound hypocritical, but I am not anti pulling everything you've learned together and presenting it. I think moving from the weekly routine of practice and lessons to preparing for a performance sharpens your focus and teaches you what you really don't yet know. That was certainly my experience in our recent dance performance.

I also think it's important to get nervous and do the thing you are afraid of despite your nerves. It's a life skill. Rose was a healthy amount of nervous, and she learned she could survive it and do a fine job.

She did do a fine job. She played at an even pace with fluidity. I could definitely tell the growth from last year. We were very happy for her, and then we all ate brownies.

the unexpurgated version

One hour and fifteen minutes of sitting in a tiny chapel trying to keep David silent and amused while listening to children hunt for notes. In fact, just read my entry from last year: http://www.journalscape.com/Debby/2011-06-12-16:27 With all the changing of kids and worrying about David, I can't even take a little mental vacation and plan my day. I really dislike children's piano recitals.
