some good moments with Rose and David

Now that my kids are older I don't want to blast their bad deeds all over the internet. Nor do I want to give the internet the idea that I have a magic wand and all interactions with my children are respectful, calm, and joyful. So, I am sharing some good moments with the secret understanding that often the antithesis is also true.

* * *

John and Rose were off at their dance class, and John suggested that instead of me and David reading our separate books all night that I pay some attention to him. I came downstairs and found David playing with his new kinetic sand. I asked if I could play and suggested we put it on a cookie sheet for better access. He said yes. We played with it. It's really cool and kind of moves on its own.

Then he wanted to do his piano practice, so he could then go watch t.v. He let me sit with him while he practiced and we had a sane conversation (no fits) about the rhythms and the pauses. I have no idea which note is which, but I can read the rhythm. He did not get mad about messing up, having to practice, or my presence.

I offered to clean up the sand and let him watch t.v. later than normal. He politely agreed.

David's timer went off, and he turned off the t.v.

Rose confessed that she might have watched too much t.v. I suggested that she let it go (Rose is very very bad at letting things go) and be more careful next time.

* * *

Rose asked me if black pants and black tops went together. I said yes, and she wore them. Actually, the top had a little red in it because I was letting her borrow my "Hello, My Name is Inego Montoya" shirt.

David is back to letting me hug and kiss him good night after a two week hiatus.
