Last night I tried Ayinger’s Altbairisch Dunkel
www.merchantduvin.com/pages/5_breweries/ayinger_altbairisch.html A toasty, almost smokey, dark lager. It was quite easy to drink and very refreshing. It had a balanced alcohol presence and overall just felt like a good hearty beer. The flavor was strong enough to go well with foods but I don’t think that it would overpower the average beer drinker. And Tucher’s Dunkel Hefe Weizen www.tucher-usa.com/new_page_5.htm Oooh I love Hefe Weizens! A good yeasty and citrus flavor permeates the aftertaste of this beer. I’ve never had a hefe weizen dunkel before (dunkel just means dark I believe) and this beer just carries the toasty and hearty flavor like the Ayinger above and adds the subtle citrus taste to it. Food might overpower this subtle flavor so I’d drink it alone but it goes well with movies – see my beer enhanced experience of Kill Bill in my next entry.
