Some people are under the false impression that one has to believe in the same ideology as the “shock jock” in order to gain full entertainment value from the radio show. I don’t know who the hell this “one” is but I sure don’t believe fuck-all that Rush says.
You see, in my last government job I spent a lot of time riding around in an unmarked police car listening to Rush, G. Gordon Liddy and occasionally the boringly unshocking Mitch Albom (who btw manages to find some kernel of eternal truth in just about any ass-backwards moronic opinion, but I digress.) I’m not going to defend the frightening G. Gordon but Rush is actually quite smart. Aside from knowing what kind of crap to feed a 20 million member slug-army day in and day out, Rush can translate any semi-racist, wholly illiterate, ignorant, and/or redneck yokel phone call into something approaching his viewpoint on the topic at hand. Most of the extremism you hear on the show is from his callers, I’d bet that Rush in real life has pretty moderate views. He’s made a boat-load of money making a fuss about some lame issues though, I mean, is Hillary really that frightening? Now, (since in this government job I spend most of my time on the internet) I only have time for one radio show, during my lunch hour. The Jim Rome show is the sports show that brings 9/10ths off topic discussion and 1/10th sports. My favorite part of the show is when about once a week an emailer goes just a little too far with a mildly offensive comment. After Jim reads the email [on the air] he gives all of us in radio land a lecture about how that sort of thing is uncalled for.
