I had a great weekend - absolutely fantastic. Until Rob and I tried to come back to L.A. that is.

Thursday night after Rob got home from work and I got home from school we drove up to Solvang. We got in around 10pm and checked into our hotel. The Country Inn and Suites. We chose this hotel cause my Mom said they were pretty nice. I don't know what crack she was smoking, but it wasn't very nice. It was kind of Motel-6y. However, it did have a bed (we think it might have been made of concrete), a toilet, and a shower and that's what really mattered. We checked into the hotel and were kind of hungry, so we decided to try and get some food. Things did not work out. The hotel only had a soda machine (no food machines) and everything around there was already closed. Even the mini-mart closed at 11pm. Scary. So, we went to sleep.

The next day we got up around 10am (early for us on a weekend) and headed into the main town area. We grabbed breakfast at a place that serves AMAZING belgian waffles. Lisa had mentioned that we should check it out - and she was right. Thanks Lisa! That place was downright yummy. We then walked around the town a little bit and hit some of the shops. For lunch we stopped at a restaurant that Shannon (a friend from Pepperdine) had recommended to us. It had a great sausage platter for two. We then did more shopping around the town. We ended up getting a few things. I got a cool dark red stone with a snake on it at a crystal shop, a pair of moccassin slippers, and Rob got me a little "Pocket Dragon" figurine for my b-day. That thing kicks ass and I'm now collecting them. They're little porcelin figure dragon things. The one he got me was holding a chocolate on its head. Very cute. (He also got me a stuffed cow-bear from the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory, but he gave that to me before we left.) I also picked up a really cool cat candle sconce. The day kicked a lot of ass and we had a blast. We ate dinner at a cute little restaurant near our hotel which was serving a Smorgasborg. By this time, Rob and I had already fallen in love with the town. After dinner we took a walk - it was so nice to be able to walk around in the middle of the night without having to worry about our safety.

On Saturday we did breakfast at the belgian waffle joint again and looked around the town a little bit more. We stopped at a local pet store to pick up gifts for our cats. Some toys (balls and a mouse) for Amber and some treats for Sydney. They seem to like them. We then headed to the Gainey Vineyards for a tour of the winery and some wine tasting. That so kicked ass and we ended up buying two bottles of wine (a bottle of Merlot and a bottle of Reisling). After the wine tasting place we headed back into town and got more sausages for lunch. Yum. We then decided to feed my new addiction and got a few more Pocket Dragons to start my collection off with. We were then getting kind of sleepy so we stopped back at the hotel for a nap. After a nice nap we headed out to The Hitching Post for dinner. Professor Caldwell (my Trial Practice Professor) recommended the steaks there. It was great. The steaks were BBQ'd and very tasty. I ended up gaining around 8 pounds over the last two days, but it was well worth it. The quality of food there is amazing. Now, I just have to eat nothing for the rest of the week. Blah. And I wasn't the only one to gain weight out there. Rob put on 5 pounds.

This morning we checked out of our skeezy little hotel and grabbed breakfast at (can you guess what I'm going to say?) the belgian waffle place! We then headed out of town.

Before I get into the nightmare of heading back to L.A., I'd like to say a few more words about Solvang. Both Rob and I fell in love with it. And we've decided to go there for our honeymoon. There's a lot to do out there (we weren't able to do everything we wanted to do) and it's a very romantic place, so that's where we will be honeymooning. We also would like to live there some day. We're even considering putting resumes out there for the hell of it to see if we could get the hell out of L.A. after I graduate from law school. We're both really sick of L.A. (especially after the robbery that happened on our street) and are trying to find a nice place to move in the near future. Unfortunately, if we did move there we would both probably get so fat we could no longer leave the house. Also unfortunately, the houses there are on the pricey side. A cute two bedroom one bathroom house was going for around 500k. Way out of our price range.

So, this weekend was great. Until we tried coming home. The traffic was good. That's a plus. However, on the way home we decided to stop off at the Camarillo outlets cause Rob needed to get some new underwear. That's when he found out that his ATM card was gone. He doesn't have a credit card and he uses that card both as an ATM card and a credit card. He called our hotel to see if he left it there and they couldn't find it. He then called his bank. Luckily there weren't any mystery charges on it. However, he did have to cancel it and probably won't get a new one until a week from now.

And when I got home I had some sucky mail waiting for me. One was another thing for jury duty. The other was from the law firm that Rob got my resume into. He asked an attorney he works with at the hospital to put my resume in because he knew I wasn't getting any interviews. Unfortunately, this place won't give me one either (they regret to inform me that they cannot offer me an interview...). At least they had the courtesy to send me a nice little rejection letter. No other firm has even been willing to waste that paper and a stamp on me. *sigh* I need a job! And I think it's time to start looking at things other than law firms. Why is it everytime I get a degree it ends up being worthless? Someone needs to shoot me.

So, as of yesterday (Saturday) I'm 28. I'm getting too old. I'm going to be 30 in just two short years and I don't even have a job. Pardon me while I go sulk and madly try to get my work done for tomorrow.
