2004-06-25 3:28 PM Pain In The Back Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: In Severe Pain Read/Post Comments (4) Yesterday I woke up with a bit of back pain. I thought I had just slept on it wrong, but today I'm wondering if it's more than that. It hurt yesterday on occasion when I moved wrong, but it's so much worse today. More on that later. Last night Rob and I headed to the Sherman Oaks mall. I had wanted to get some more perfume since I'm close to running out, but Sephora was out of the stuff I use. We looked around in some of the stores and I ended up getting a pair of summery jeans and some panties. I still need to get more panties down the road, because they didn't have many at all in my size. I also picked up a new wallet. It's not as cool as my old one, but my old one is starting to fall apart. It will have to do. We grabbed dinner at the food court (Subway) and headed home when we were done with the mall. The rest of the night we just hung out around the apartment. Last night I had enormous difficulty getting to sleep. It wasn't insomnia this time, it was pain. No matter what position I was in (on either side, on my back, etc.) I was in terrible pain and that pain kept me awake. When Rob left for work I took an Aleve and he rubbed some Icy Hot on my back. I managed to fall asleep for a little while but kept waking up whenever I moved because my back hurt like hell. I have no idea what's wrong with it, but it hurts more than I can say. My back has gone out before - so badly that I was in physical therapy and traction for a few months, but there was a reason for it then. I lifted something that I shouldn't have. This time I can't think of anything that I did to hurt it. It hurt a bit yesterday when I woke up and ended up getting really bad last night. Oddly enough, I can bend over just fine. In fact, it feels better if I'm bent over. But sitting straight up, bending sideways, and bending back hurts like hell. The worst pain comes when I cough, sneeze, burp, or breathe in deeply. I need to keep taking shallow breaths to avoid the pain. It's in the lower middle portion of my back and seems to be mostly on the left side (though the right side does hurt a little bit sometimes). I'm not really sure what I can do to make it better. And I probably won't be able to see a doctor about it anytime soon. My old orthopedic surgeon has retired so I no longer have a back doctor. And when I'm in this much pain I can't drive. Since everyone I know with a car has work or school on weekdays I don't think I could find anyone to drive me to an appointment and back. So, I need to find ways to make it better around here. This doesn't feel like it normally does when my back goes out - besides, I do my back exercises regularly so it shouldn't be a problem. This is a spot that's never really hurt before when I've had back problems. I just wish I could find a way to make the pain stop because it's driving me nuts. You know it's bad when it even hurts to breathe. I can't wait until Rob gets home. I hate to say this, but I'm going to need his help while my back is this bad because I can barely walk on my own. I just wish I knew what the hell was wrong with it. ----------
