Rob's Cavities

Mood:
Happy to be away from LA.

Today we all got up at 10am. After getting ready we headed out to Dubuque because Rob had a dentist appointment. About a year and a half ago we both for dental check ups out here and he had two cavities. He never got them fixed, so he decided it was about time. It's a good thing he did. The two cavities he had before had gone from minor to big. He also has two new small ones. So, he got his teeth cleaned and got the two big ones filled. Tomorrow I'm getting a clean and check and he's getting the two small ones filled.

After the dentist he was talking a bit weird. He was slurring his words because half of his mouth was numb and he was lisping because one of the fillings made his bite off (and he managed to bite his tongue when it was numb). The dentist said he could eat right away and since it was 3pm after we got out of the dentist's office and none of us had eaten we went to The Olive Garden for lunch. All of us had soup, salad, and breadsticks.

From there it was on to the mall. I need new glasses (regular and sunglasses). I had my eyes checked out and my Rx isn't much different than it was before. So, I can still use my old glasses when I want to (which is good because they're comfy - unfortunately they're also really old and getting eroded so I did need a new pair). I ended up getting a cute black plastic frame (Rob says they like "Lisa Loebish", I don't know who that is so I'll have to take his word on that) for my regular glasses and a cool dark blue frame for my sunglasses. I also found out something kind of interesting when I was there. I'm color blind in two ways. One, I knew about - I can't tell the difference between dark blues and black. The other I never knew about. One of my eyes can't see yellow correctly (it sees it as a greenish), but the other can. So, I don't see yellow like most people do. I find this rather interesting because I've always hated the color yellow. I think it's disgusting and it always gives me a headache to look at. Apparently it is unappealing to me because I don't see it correctly. And it gives me a headache because one of my eyes can't see it correctly and the other can and it hurts my eyes. Weird, huh?

After I got my eyes checked out and picked out the frames, my Mom, Rob, and I headed out into the mall. We looked around the mall, but it wasn't very interesting. Small mall, not a lot of cool stores. I got a few things I needed in a drug store and I got a book on rabbits at a book store (Rob picked up the second Harry Potter book). I also got Rob an award ribbon saying he knew how to use the toilet (well, he does, and he doesn't have any ribbons for it). I think he might consider me insane. Rob also picked up a few boxes of his beloved Sno-Caps. I think he should save one of the boxes and show them to the people at the AMC concession stands to prove that yes, they do exist. My Mom picked up a book and a pair of flip flops (like a pair I have) at Payless. We also made a stop in the teeny food court for some soda. Finally, we made our way back to LensCrafters. I was able to pick up my new glasses, but the sunglasses weren't ready yet. Apparently they were having some problem with them. So I'm going to pick them up tomorrow.

We then headed out of the mall and back to Galena for dinner. We grabbed food at a hotel/restaurant called The Irish Cottage. The restaurant was an Irish pub. It was very cool. While we were there I saw some very cool jewelry, but wasn't able to get any of it. They had a kick ass ring of a triquatra (but not in my size) and some really cool Claddagh rings (also not in my size). So, I wasn't able to pick any of them up. After dinner we headed home.

Once again, we're watching TV around the house and I'm doing some things online. Tomorrow - more dentist time and more time in Dubuque!

Oh, and as an answer to Shannon's comment on my last entry, no, the weather is not any better here. In fact, it's worse. It's in the high 90's out here and VERY humid. Like 98% humidity. And this morning we had a thunderstorm with a tornado warning. Summers out here are just as hot as they are back in LA, only there's a LOT of humidity as well. Makes it hard to breathe when you're outside and Rob keeps making gasping noises when he's outside. It's so humid that we're expecting fish to start swimming through the air.
