Rob Has A Car... Well, Almost

Yesterday Rob and I headed over to the Toyota dealership to check out a car. My Mom found a really good deal online for a Camry XLE and we went to test drive it. When we first got to the dealership, we were swarmed by people who worked there. Rob made the comment that they were like sharks. Oddly enough, when we went into the dealership Rob noticed a fish tank with small sharks in it. Too funny.

We first met with Gladys, the woman who my Mom had been dealing with online. But she immediatly pawned us off on someone else. Real nice. The guy we dealt with had no clue about the deal my Mom and Gladys made. *sigh* He was also very high pressure and very pushy. Both Rob and I test drove the car. Rob liked it a lot and I thought it was a good ride. Different than my car, but still good. Though I'm not a fan of sedans, I did like the Camry. Rob decided that's the car he wanted. It's a 2005 black Camry XLE with a beige leather interior. I didn't like the interior color (I will only get my cars with black or grey interiors), but for the deal we were getting and considering the fact that this will be Rob's first car, the interior color can be overlooked.

After Rob decided that this was the car we wanted, we worked out the deal. It shouldn't have been as hard as it was. Here's the deal my Mom made with Gladys. We would put $3000 down right then and there. We would sign a provisional contract which meant that they would hold the car until Saturday. On Saturday, my Mom would come out with a cashier's check for the balance and we would do all the paperwork and take the car then. Not a hard concept to understand, is it? The guy we were dealing with said we couldn't do that. We had to do all the paperwork and the entire contract then and there (and, even though we're paying cash for the car, they needed to do a credit check on both Rob and I - how weird is that) and we would take the car home that night. Um... no. Not the deal we had. To make a very long story short, my Mom talked to the manager about all of this. We did end up having to do all the paperwork yesterday. However, this coming Saturday we will pay the balance and get the car. They kept trying to insist that we take the car yesterday, but we don't want it until Saturday. This way we can have a parking spot, insurance, etc. all in order first. They put up a stink about where they were going to keep the car (hello - keep it where you have been keeping it) and finally agreed to hold onto it until Saturday. Then, came the waiting.

And waiting. And waiting. And waiting. We were waiting to go to the finance department for all of the paperwork. TWO HOURS later, we finally did. In the meantime, we subsisted on coffee and vending machine food. When we went into the financing department to do all of the contract work, they had ONLY put Rob's name on the title. We had told them to put both of us on there. So, after filling out even more paperwork, we got both of out names on the title to the car. Then there was more and more paperwork and FINALLY we were out of there. We had gotten to the dealership around 4pm. We left around 8:30pm. *shakes head and sighs*

After the Toyota dealership we headed to Burbank and had dinner at The Olive Garden. By then, we were both really hungry. Dinner was great and we headed home after we ate.

Not much is going on today. I am, however, trying to get in touch with my tax attorney. Remember how I said that my Dad gave my W-2 forms to my tax attorney only recently? And that Rob and I needed to re-do our taxes? Well, on Friday I got a letter from the IRS saying that Rob and I owe them even more money. *sigh* I wish everything could be handled with our taxes at tax time and that my Dad didn't drag ass on those W-2's. It's making things all nuts now.

I found a rather cool link on Kenny's journal today (his journal link is to the left and listed under "Geekly Obsessions"). It's something I recommend everyone (especially those who were not pleased with the election results) check out. To read it, Click Here.
