Little Ghetto Condos

Yesterday my Mom and I drove around and checked out some condos in the Toluca Lake / Burbank area that she had found. Rob and I would really like to move out of the building we're currently in, but we would also like to wait until we can buy property to make the move. So, my Mom had found some condos that we could afford (where the mortgage payments would be equal to or less than the rent we're currently paying). The results? We're never going to be able to afford property unless we want to live in the ghetto or move out of LA.

Out of seven places we looked at, only one was remotely acceptable. The neighborhood was decent, but the place was... eh. The others were so ghetto and in bad neighborhoods. One was at the end of a dead end street overlooking a mechanic's shop and the LA river. For those of you not in the know, the LA river is not a real river. It's a large concrete ditch that fills with water only when it's raining. There were also police outside the building. Another was right next door to a bail bonds place. Yet another had weird wet pillows lined up on someone's balcony. My Mom and I didn't go into any of the condos, but driving by was enough to see it wasn't a place I would want to live in. Yeech. And these weren't cheap places. LA is so expensive to live in - all of these condos ranged from $350,000 to $500,000! This makes me really want to head out to someplace like Chicago or Milwaukee where Rob and I could actually buy a house. Out here, we can't even afford a decent condo, let alone a house.

After looking around at the ghetto condos, my Mom and I made a pit stop in downtown Burbank. We had some coffee at The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, walked around Burbank, and a made a quick stop in the mall. I ended up getting a neat sweater for Rob at men's Express. While walking by the cart with the weirdo that eats the micro beads inside of stuffed animals I noticed that they had new colors of penguins. I was tempted to get the red one until the guy told me they were twenty five dollars. I told him no thank you. In Chinatown the same brand of plush animals range from eight to ten dollars. He was an ass and asked "You'd go to CHINATOWN????". Yeah buddy, I would, and I do on a pretty regular basis. Fucker.

After that my Mom and I headed into downtown LA to pick Rob up from work. Like minds think alike I guess, because he had gotten a gift for me as well. He got me two Beanie Babies - a Xmas moose (named Moosletoe) and a really cool looking green and gold reindeer (named Sleighbelle). I gave him the sweater and he seemed to like it. From Rob's work we headed to the Benihana in Encino. I love that restaurant. The past three days have been so cool. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday I have eaten at all of my favorite restaurants. Dinner was super yummy and for once, I could drink. After dinner we headed back home and chilled out and watched TV.

This morning the limo picked my Mom up at 9:30am. She had a noon flight out of LAX. *sigh* I really wish that she could have stayed longer. I love it when she's out here, and I get so lonely when she leaves. It's much better when she leaves on the weekend - because then I'm around Rob still. But on a weekday Rob's at work and my Mom leaves and I'm used to being around someone. I just get so lonely and depressed. I can't wait until Rob comes home from work. I need to be around someone.

It looks like today and tomorrow will be filled with laundry. I have thirteen loads to get done (white, white delicates, dark, dark delicates, color, color delicates, jeans, Rob's work pants, our sheets, our towels, guest sheets, guest towels, guest quilt). I just hope I can get them all done by the time D&D starts tomorrow night. I also need to do some job hunting catch up, though I don't think it's going to do any good. Tis the season for places to stop hiring. Mid-November to the beginning of January is the worst for job hunting.
