2005-11-29 3:14 PM Endocrinologist Appointment Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: Annoyed at having to take blood samples four times a day! Read/Post Comments (0) I got up at 5:30am this morning (ugh) after very little sleep. It's hard to get comfortable in bed while this pregnant. And if I do get comfy enough to start falling asleep I either need to pee or Gabriel starts kicking me. *sigh* Ah well, at least it's practice for the many sleepless nights ahead of me once he's born! I headed to work with Rob this morning and spent some time in the nurse's lounge while he worked. He then met me in the lounge and we headed to the 9:00 doctor's appointment with the endocrinologist. The doctor was very underprepared. Either she didn't ask for any info from my OB or nothing was sent to her. Either way, she had no idea why I was there (or that I was even pregnant which I found odd due in fact to my huge baby belly). Luckily I had the numbers of the glucose test memorized. She was surprised I knew my numbers and then realized that I was an attorney. Apparently the only other patient she has ever had who had their numbers memorized was also an attorney. I think we have reputations like the boy scouts... that we're always prepared (or can just fake it really well). We went over some things (meal plans and blood testing) and she taught me how to use the glucose meter. Ugh, I do not like the sight of my own blood. On the bright side, I managed not to pass out. So, I should be set on that for the time being. I have a form to fill out every time I test my blood (4 times a day) and if the numbers are high she wants it back in a week and then I'll be put on insulin. If the numbers are normal I need to send it to her every two weeks. My numbers will not be posted publicly. If people are curious they can ask, but I don't feel comfortable sharing that sort of information with strangers. After the appointment Rob headed back to work and I headed back to the nurse's lounge. I read over everything for my meter and played some Sudoku. Everything was going well until some people came in and started making lunch. Some woman was microwaving something that smelled like she put a used baby diaper in there. It was horrible and I used all my will to not throw up. Rob came by soon after and noticed the lingering ass smell. Ew. On the way out of the hospital I grabbed a bacon wrapped hot dog (god those are good when you're pregnant) and Rob drove me home during his lunch hour. Now I'm just working on laundry and chasing Amber around the apartment and trying to pull her out of cabinets. She's such a freaking spaz. She's also wandering around the house yowling for Rob. Tonight I need to pick up some diabetes testing supplies and other various things. ----------
Hey, if you got 80% or above, congratulations! You've got what it takes to be a hero. If you got above 55%, you're more heroic than the average bear. If you got below 40%, you are either too afraid to act when the moment comes, or care about yourself more than others. Or you skipped questions, and I warned you about that. If you liked taking my test please give it a good rating! Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
