2006-01-23 3:28 PM Daytrip To Solvang Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: Content Read/Post Comments (0) Yesterday Rob and I got up early and headed up to Solvang. We were going to meet up with Lisa and Nick while we were there. We got there around 11am and headed to our usual lunch spot, The Heidelburg Inn. Unfortunately, it was closed for renovations. This gave us the problem of finding a place where I could eat. Most of the restaurants give you things I cannot eat with a meal. So, Rob headed to the little visitor's kiosk and asked if the guy knew any place where a diabetic could get meat and cheese and little to no carbs. He suggested a place we had been before that had a rather mediocre buffet/smorgasborg going on (I don't remember the name of the place). It was better than nothing, so we headed there. Originally, we were supposed to meet up with Lisa and Nick for lunch, but that didn't end up working out. They were a bit late getting up there and I need to eat pretty regularly or my blood sugar gets out of control. If I go too long without eating my blood sugar gets very low and then my body releases it's own glucose stores to "stabalize" it. However, with the GD and my insulin not working that means my blood sugar then becomes way too high for the rest of the day which is a very bad thing for both myself and Gabriel. So, we headed to lunch at the mediocre buffet place and let them know where we were in case they got into town while we were still eating. It ended up working out that we met up with them right when we were done with lunch. When we met up with Lisa and Nick they had brought gifts for the baby. We got some super cool stuff including a duckie baby blanket, some clothing, and a piggy bank. Very cool, but they didn't need to (though it is appreciated by all three of us). Since I can't do a whole lot of walking (even one way and back around the town is pushing it at the moment) we moved our car over to where we wanted to start (the lot in the middle of town) and Lisa and Nick got to ride in Rob's car. With Rob driving. Ooooooh. One of the places we went into was The Mystic Merchant. I was looking for a specific magnetic bracelet, but they were sold out. I think this is the only time I have been in that store and not gotten anything there. The four of us wandered around town and looked in various stores. Once we hit the end of the town Lisa and Nick met up with Lisa's sister and they headed off with her. It was great spending time with both Lisa and Nick and neat meeting Lisa's sister. One of the stores we went into in that area of town was Johnson's Jewel Box (the store where I got my pregnancy wedding band and where my Mom got Rob his watch for Xmas) and I found and bought a super cute ring there. I really like that jewelry store. The others in Solvang are so overpriced. Once Lisa and Nick headed off Rob and I walked back to the middle of town and looked in some more stores. Finally, Terra Lane (the fairy store) was open! I managed to pick up some cool astrological stickers and magnets while there. It's rare that I find that store open anymore. It was then time for our massage appointments so we headed to the De Stress Cafe. Both of us really needed the massages. Rob got a table massage and I got my usual 20 minute seated and 30 minute foot reflexology ones. The seated was good, but the massuse couldn't use a lot of pressure because of the baby. The foot one was amazing and I think there were times I actually started dozing off during it! I had to actively try to stay awake (I wanted to be awake and enjoy it) during the end of it. Wow, I think I found something that helps to knock me out. After the massages Rob and I headed over to Mandarin Touch for some Chinese food. Dinner was outstanding as usual (and Chinese food always tends to give me good numbers as long as I stay away from the rice) and when we were done we headed back home. The combination of the relaxing massage and Gabriel sleeping during long car rides allowed me to get some sleep in the car on the way back. I woke up to make a bathroom pit stop, but for the most part I spent the ride home dozing on and off. When we got home we chilled out with the cats for a bit and then decided to head to bed early. Unfortunately, just as we were about to head to bed the power went out so we then had to re-set the phones and things before going to bed. I had a little bit of trouble falling asleep last night, but was able to pass out in the comfy chair. When I woke up I made my way back into the bed and was able to sleep. My body had once again reached it's peak of exhaustion and the combo of the relaxing massages and my body being ready to shut down caused me to get some real sleep last night. Granted, I kept waking up every half hour or so to pee, but I was able to fall back asleep pretty soon after my bathroom runs. I'm more awake today than I've been in a long time. Yeah, I'm still somewhat tired, but it's a lot better than how I've been doing recently. I hope I can sleep again tonight because tomorrow I have to get up before the sun. Ugh. ----------
