Monday night sucked hard. I wasn't able to get any sleep whatsoever. Even the comfy chair couldn't get rid of the pain in my lower back. The alarm was set for 6:30am and around 6:15am I decided to just turn them off and shower. No sense in even trying to see if I could sleep at that point. When I was done with my shower I got Rob up. He was taking the day off of work because we had a few doctors appointments to go to and it was just easier that way. I have to say, as much as I hate driving, it sucks to not be able to do it. Yeah, I hate it, but I also hate having no freedom and having to make sure I have a ride lined up whenever I need to go somewhere.

We headed out of the house around 8am because our first appointment was at 9am with Dr. Bochner (the perinatologist). Because of the GD my OB recommended that I have another Type 2 ultrasound done to see how he was measuring. On the very off chance he was 10% or under (super small), I would be put on bedrest for the rest of my pregnancy. On the decent chance he was 90% or above (huge macrosomatic GD baby) I would be induced right around my safe date (Feb. 2). If he was in between those numbers, all would be good for now. 50% is about what the average baby measures and between 50% and 90% it's not something they worry about, but the higher the number is the bigger the baby will be. Granted, my sugars have been under control for the most part, but I was still concerned about the ultrasound because the GD itself (even with good control) can still bring about a huge baby.

The ultrasound went very well. When I showed the Dr. my numbers he assumed they were insulin controlled. He seemed very surprised that I was able to control them the way I am just with diet and exercise. Looks like I'm doing something right. The baby measured pretty much perfectly. I'm right around 50% and he's right around 6 pounds. The Dr. predicted that Gabriel would probably be around 7 3/4 to 8 pounds if he goes to 40 weeks. Carmen (my doula) mentioned that the smallest GD baby she has ever delivered was 8 1/2 pounds. I told her my goal was to be under that and it looks like he very well might be. So, we had some good news on that front.

The appointment went a lot faster than we had thought it would and our next appointment wasn't until 11:30pm. So, we chilled out for a bit, grabbed some breakfast at McDonald's, and eventually made our way into the Little Tokyo section of downtown LA to meet up with Dr. Nakashima (our future pediatrician). We got there early and had to wait for a bit, but it wasn't a big deal.

Everything went well when we met with the Doctor. He was very cool and seemed like a good fit as a pediatrician for Gabriel. My OB uses him for her children and he's covered under the Good Samaritan health plan we have. My only concern was the location of his office. First off, I don't drive in downtown LA. It's a rule I imposed on myself after a rather bad time getting to the convention center for a test and I'm rather happy never driving down there again. Also, it's kind of far away to keep having to take Gabriel to the doctor's. Oh well, hopefully it won't be for all that long. While we don't know when we will be moving and are just taking things one step at a time right now, we're both hoping the move is able to come sooner rather than later.

After we left the pediatrician's office we drove through downtown LA to get back to the freeway. Wow. Can I just say ew here? I've lived in Chicago and I've been to New York and downtown Los Angeles is small, cramped, and pretty damn disgusting. I'm so glad I don't have to go there often. It's not even a place I would want to walk around along in during the day. Bleh.

We headed back to our area and grabbed some lunch at Burger King. We then made a stop at Cinema Secrets (I had made a bet with Rob and lost and needed to pick something up there so that I can make good on the bet in the near future) and headed home. I watched Passions and Rob desperately tried to ignore it and then we both decided it was nap time. I hadn't slept at all on Monday night and he was kind of tired as well. We ended up sleeping from around 3:30pm until around 6:30pm. I actually got some sleep and it felt great. Granted, it was with bathroom trips, but it was still sleep.

When we woke up we decided we didn't really want to go anywhere and that a night around the house sounded like a really good idea. So, we ordered in Chinese foodage and gamed.
